DAV Officials Gather in Reno for First Annual VA Appreciation Lunch. (Click here to see photos)
The DAV Department of Nevada hosted its first annual VA appreciation lunch in
Reno, Nevada, on August 23, 2006. The DAV National Service Office and Department
of Nevada hosted the event at the VA Regional Office in Reno. The purpose of
the event was to thank the VA employees at the Regional Office for the work they
do on behalf of veterans. National Service Office personnel prepared the food
for the event, which included smoked pork loins, salads, chips and soft drinks.
Approximately 70 people were served at the event.
Following the lunch, DAV Officials met with the Director of the VA Regional Office,
Don Iddings, to discuss VA activities and policies. This was followed by a meeting
with the Director of the VA Medical Center, Dr. Kurt Schlegelmilch, and a tour
of the facility as well. Department Commander Escalera noted that the lunch and
meeting were very successful, as it gave DAV officials a chance to say thank
you to the VA personnel who work each day to assist veterans. Additionally, he
expressed his appreciation to the Directors of the VA Regional Office and of
the VA Medical Center for being given the opportunity to discuss issues facing
Nevada's veterans, especially those disabled veterans in Nevada.
DAV Officials were also given a chance to see the the new regional office site,
which is under construction.
Following the events of the day, the DAV Department Commander, Department Adjutant,
and 1st Junior Vice Commander met with local DAV Chapter officials for supper
and comradeship.
Those attending the various events during the day were DAV Department Commander – Kyler
Escalera; Department Adjutant – Bill Anton, 1st Junior Vice Commander – Wayne
Willson, Past Department Commander – Richard Squires; DAV Chapter 1 Commander – Frank
Greenwood, Chapter 1 Adjutant – Paul Gulas ; Chapter 7 Commander – Les
Laberee; Chapter 7 Adjutant – Jim Billig; and Fred Wagar – National
Service Office Supervisor (NSOS).
